Seal, Al McKay’s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience and the classical guitarist Petrit Çeku have been added to the line-up of the 34th Night of the Proms on Friday, 23 November and Saturday, 24 November 2018 in the Sportpaleis. They will share the stage with Suzanne Vega, Milow, Pieter Embrechts (as a singer and host) and John Miles. The artists will once again be supported by the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra and the Fine Fleur choir among others. Brazilian-born Alexandra Arrieche is the conductor of this spectacle.
Soul musician Seal
The British musician Seal burst onto the music scene in the nineties as the guest vocalist on the Adamski single ‘Killer’, with his own singles ‘Crazy’ and ‘Future Love Paradise’ (from his debut album ‘Seal’) performing well in the charts. Later hits include the stunning ‘Kiss From A Rose’ (the song featured on the soundtrack of ‘Batman Forever’ and has reached over 121 million streams on Spotify) and ‘Amazing’. He released his latest album ‘Standards’, with covers of jazz and swing classics, last year. Since the start of his career in 1989, Seal has sold over 30 million albums.
Since her break-through hit ‘Marlene On The Wall’ over 33 years ago, Suzanne Vega continues to be an international crowd-pleaser. Last year she celebrated the 30th anniversary of ‘Solitude Standing’, an album with such global hits as ‘Luka’ and ‘Tom’s Diner’. The album shot up the charts around the world. She still tours the globe, selling out venues in no time at all and is looking forward to performing with an orchestra at the Night of the Proms.
Let’s groove with Earth, Wind & Fire
In 1990, former Earth Wind & Fire guitarist Al McKay, who left the group in the early 80s, formed the “LA Allstars” with a number of other former band members. The band has since changed its name to “Al McKay’s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience”, delivering that original disco and soul sound. ‘Boogie Wonderland’, ‘Let’s groove’ and ‘September’ (over 347 million streams on Spotify) became global hits.
Guitarist Petrit Çeku
Petrit Çeku (33) is a classical guitarist from Kosovo. He has performed as a soloist with some of the world’s greatest symphonic orchestras, including the St. Petersburg State Hermitage Orchestra, acquiring quite a following. Çeku has already won several international guitar competitions, including Parkening and Schadt in the USA and Biasini and Pittaluga in Italy.
Jonathan Vandenbroeck is a talented, affable, Leuven-born Belgian singer-songwriter who spends half of his time in LA. He continues to achieve success with his own hits and productions. From 2007 until 2012, he won 12 MIAs (Belgian music awards). To date, no Flemish artist has been able to outperform him. This year will be a very special year for Milow, as he will be touring Europe and performing at the Night of the Proms in Belgium.
Night of the Proms has been organised annually in Sportpaleis since 1985. This music spectacular combines performances by artists in different genres with classical music. The concept has already received an Emmy Award, a Goldene Kamera and a Live Entertainment Award, and the event has been attended by over 10 million visitors in Europe and the United States.
